Move over Box.net, Mozy and Xdrive, Wuala is here ! Those were exactly the words in my mind when I first heard about Wua.la a couple of months back. Back then, it was in a closed beta and I couldn’t try the service. Well, Wua.la is open to the public now and, boy, am I glad !
Wua.la is basically an online storage service. In that sense, it is no different than Box.net, Mozy or Xdrive. What makes it different is the social aspect of it.
Wuala is storage based on p2p …

So, Google launched Google Knol today and the whole blogosphere is talking about it. That’s understandable. It’s not everyday that Google releases a new product which gets its own sub domain. But, what I don’t understand is: why is everyone, including reputed blogs like Lifehacker, Problogger and others calling it a wikipedia killer ?
I think that this is just another way for Google to display adsense advertisements on the internet. And the real competitors are sites like hubpages.com which work on almost exactly the same model, that Google Knol is …

OSScamp Bengaluru Mobile 2008 is an unconference, unlike a conventional conference where discussions and panels are arranged beforehand, The unconference lets everyone decide what will be discussed on the day. Obviously like other unconferences it is free but you are expected to participate. If you are in the camp you are expected to share, speak, volunteer, blog, help or participate in some form. The conference is scheduled for 19th July. This is a short notice, …

Wordpress is working on a new mobile application for the iPhone.
The WordPress for iPhone App is nearly ready to go. It supports WordPress.com blogs as well as self-hosted WordPress.org blogs running version 2.5.1 or newer.
This, I beleive, would be great for technology or news based blogs which would now be able to report on the latest greatest in the world almost as soon as they hear about it.

Adobe has today released technology to help search engines index flash files. This is HUGE news for those developing websites using Flash/Flex.
“Adobe is providing optimized Adobe® Flash® Player technology to Google and Yahoo! to enhance search engine indexing of the Flash file format (SWF) and uncover information that is currently undiscoverable by search engines. This will provide more relevant automatic search rankings of the millions of RIAs and other dynamic content that run in Adobe Flash Player.”
Marketeers using Flash (most Ad agencies, ironically) can now finally breathe easy and be …

VMware in collaboration with Cisco has just published a Whitepaper on integrating VMware Infrastructure 3 in a Cisco Network Environment.
Get the whitepaper here.
Even if you don’t rely on Cisco equipment for your Data Center, the whitepaper is a good read for anyone looking to implement VI 3 technology. It gives a good perspective in the real vs. virtual way of doing things and should help make the decision of moving to virtualisation easier.

If you came here looking for THE one definitive answer, I’m sorry to disappoint you. There is none ! There are lesser contenders for the title than, say, two years back, but the battle is still on.
Microsoft released its new virtualisation offering, Hyper-V, on thursday and has decided to take on the golliath of the virtual world, VMware, head on. Friday saw VMware’s stock at NYSE crash by almost 14%. Granted Friday wasn’t good for most tech stocks at NYSE, but the writing on the wall is clear. VMware has …

According to a yankee group report, 80% of US businesses run Macs. While the number itself is staggering what is even more interesting is that this percentage is almost double the 47% of mac running businesses from just two years ago. Not surprisingly, a good 28% of these businesses still use virtualisation to run Windows on these macs.
While I’m not the right person to comment on this data, I’m not particularly surprised. Macs have been gaining market share with the general public since the last few years and its good …
